Večer slovenský a žiadny iný: Lost in Translation and PiNKBUS
ARCHA+ is responding not only to the questionable statement by the Slovak Minister of Culture, but above all to the destruction of Slovak culture that is currently taking place in Slovakia under the direction of the Ministry of Culture. As a means of support, ARCHA+ has chosen to regularly invite Slovak creative teams from the independent scene as part of the program series “Večer slovenský a žiadny iný” (Slovak Evening and No Other).
Lost in Translation / Found in Translation
This theatrical road trip / dance love trip captures the intimate story of the married couple and dancers Lívia MM Balážová and Zebastián Méndez Marín. Lívia is from Slovakia, and Zebastián is from Costa Rica. Their paths crossed in Belgium, where they both performed with the international company Ultima Vez, with which they traveled extensively around the world. They then moved to Costa Rica and eventually to Slovakia, where they now live together. By sharing their personal experiences, they explore themes of migration, identity, and the search for one’s place in the world. What is it like to balance the need to “translate” oneself into another country, another language, and another way of thinking, while at the same time preserving the integrity of one’s own world? How can one avoid losing oneself along the way?

PiNKBUS salutes the forests and mountains—our salute comes from the bottom of our hearts! We are part of Slovak culture. WE ARE Slovak culture. Whether MADAM likes it or not. Let’s change traditions together! It’s time for a “veselica,” because Slovak culture is uniquely Slovak and nothing else. At a time when, on the one hand, traditional values, the countryside, and folklore are being promoted, and on the other, queer people and city dwellers are being celebrated, the nation is seeking common ground and striving for understanding between both camps. And there’s nothing better than music! From the Tatras to the Danube, from Eugen Suchoň’s “Páslo dievča pávy” to Marika Gombitová. The evening will also feature new faces from the Drag Workshop, which will take place on the same day.
In addition to standard tickets, you’ll also find tickets in the “I Support ARCHU+” category, priced at 750 CZK, 1,000 CZK, or 2,000 CZK. These are for those who are able and willing to help us take our venue a step further at this time. The cultural sector isn’t having the easiest time right now, and every bit of support like this is a huge motivator for us. At the same time, though, we know that not everyone can afford it. What matters most to us is that we all get to come together here.

It is a platform that primarily supports queer artists and brings a new wave of creativity to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. It builds on the tradition of Prague cabarets and variety shows, spicing it up with a dose of the rising trend—drag queens. The creators are responding to the strong global rise of drag culture and bringing it into the Czech and Slovak context. Interest in this type of art and performance has grown immensely and has spread beyond the LGBT community. It opens up a discussion on the most pressing issues in today’s society, such as sexuality, nudity, freedom, physicality, and the cult of beauty. The creators are increasingly convinced of the need to build a platform for the queer art scene. Creating a safe space that raises awareness and brings people together is more important than ever before.

Since its founding in 2014, the company has performed at more than 100 national and international festivals, where it has won numerous awards. The company’s theatrical language is oriented toward interdisciplinary artistic expression; in its work, it experiments with the techniques of puppet theater, object theater, physical theater, and performance art. In addition to creating performances for all age groups, the company is involved in para-theatrical projects, education, and collaborations with artists from various artistic disciplines. The company’s leading figures are Monika Kováčová and Mária Danadová. In addition to the independent theater scene, they also collaborate with state theaters.
Štúdio tanca Theater
For nearly a quarter of a century in Banská Bystrica, it has been creating original dance performances, leading movement classes for children and adults, organizing dance festivals, providing artist residencies, and hosting many other activities and events that bring contemporary dance to the public. It presents its diverse repertoire—comprising works for both discerning audiences and children—on its home stage as well as on tours both domestically and abroad. It is based, creates, and performs in its own fully equipped building, which is home to an international artistic ensemble of dancers from three continents. Throughout its history, the company has brought contemporary art, people, and a global atmosphere to the city, and it has no intention of stopping.
